Hello! I am KoenKje!

Who am I?

People don't call me, because I come on my own, but they refer to me as Koen Koreman.

I work at Howest as a lecturer. Everyone knows me as a very funny person, and you'll probably understand why after reading this blog.

Teenagers

I love my children (especially, when they wake up at 6 AM to watch cartoons and demand food out of nowhere) and my students (but only those who are 18+). Of course, there are always those 220-IQ moments.

For example, I once explained to my child that 1 + 1 = 10. It's funny because it's actually true in binary, but not everyone understands this. Others think: "What on earth is he teaching his child?"

I also love my students, although it's unfortunate that some don't take my classes. Sometimes that makes me sad, but it also lets me laugh and give 222-IQ hints that technically lead to the answer but require some deciphering. This was particularly amusing with Log4j.

There are also situations I prefer to call brain farts:

Please, study my subjects. Asking me what a variable is after months of lectures in OS and Programming Fundamentals makes me sad :(

Especially during the exam, when a student spends 30 minutes trying to find the code to enter the exam environment. It makes me feel like this:

Wtf...

because: "Just raise your head... The code is on the TV... Don't make me lose faith in humanity, please..."

My Favorite Unix-Based Operating Systems

Everyone knows I prefer Linux for many reasons, but it's not the only Unix-like operating system. One of the most popular alternatives is macOS.

There are definite differences between them. For example, on macOS you can easily customize your terminal. While this feature can be great, it is sometimes overused. I'm not against it, but when I saw my colleague's terminal... words left me. This picture perfectly describes my reaction: Well...

Laughter prolongs life

During one of my Forensic Analysis lectures I was talking about Windows. Yeah... not the one I'd prefer to talk about. Anyway, suddenly a laugh from a student's phone filled the room. The whole class burst out laughing, including me. Checking your phone during lectures is dangerous. Don't do it..

However, it made the situation better and improved everyone's mood. Before that, I'd seen bored faces that silently asked: "Why am I here?"

But don't do it.
